Why Jesus Was Born

WHY JESUS WAS BORN

I am so very glad that Jesus was born. But it is not the man made birth date of Dec. 25th that I celebrate. What sends me to my knees in gratitude and humility is why he was born. It is the end of his earthly life that blesses mankind. He was born for the purpose of dying on the cross to save us. It is what he did on the cross that saved a wretch like me.

Peter tried to stop the cross from happening but Jesus prevented Peter from doing this and let Peter know that the cross was a cup he must drink. It must happen this way:

John 18:10-11 (NASB)
10 Simon Peter then, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest's slave, and cut off his right ear; and the slave's name was Malchus.
11 So Jesus said to Peter, "Put the sword into the sheath; the cup which the Father has given Me, shall I not drink it?"

Matthew 26:52-54 (NASB)
52 Then Jesus *said to him, "Put your sword back into its place; for all those who take up the sword shall perish by the sword.
53 "Or do you think that I cannot appeal to My Father, and He will at once put at My disposal more than twelve legions of angels?
54 "How then will the Scriptures be fulfilled, which say that it must happen this way?"

All Jesus cared about was his mission which took him to the cross. To this end he was born. It was this end that would be our hope of salvation.

37 Therefore Pilate said to Him, "So You are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say correctly that I am a king. For
John 18:37-38 (NASB)
this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice."
38 Pilate *said to Him, "What is truth?" And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews and *said to them, "I find no guilt in Him.

The truth that Pilate did not understand is that all mankind had committed sin and was on course that would take them straight to judgment before the throne of God. Where they would receive the wages of their sins.

Romans 3:23 (NASB)
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Romans 6:23 (NASB)
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

2 Corinthians 5:10 (NASB)
10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

Jesus died for us thereby receiving the wage of death we deserved for our own sins. The Righteous One in behalf of the unrighteous ones.

1 Peter 3:18 (NASB)
18 For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;

1 Peter 1:18-19 (NASB)
18 knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers,
19 but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.

Because of these truths on the first day of each week I gather with fellow Christians to proclaim the death Jesus died in my place. I examine myself and realize if God had not sent Jesus on a mission to the cross, I would be eternally lost because I am a sinner.

1 Corinthians 11:23-28 (NASB)
23  For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus in the night in which He was betrayed took bread;
24  and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, "This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me."
25  In the same
way He took the cup also after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me."
26  For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes.
27  Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, shall be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord.
28  But a man must examine himself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup.

Every day of my life since the gospel message brought me to Christ, I remember, am grateful and praise God in heaven for the hope of eternal life in Christ. I rejoice at the plan of God that brought Jesus to the cross. My heart weeps because of the sins I committed that caused Jesus to take the wages of my sins upon himself.

Philippians 2:5-11 (NASB)
5  Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus,
6  who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped,
7  but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.
8  Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
9  For this
reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name,
10  so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11  and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

I bend the knees of my heart and prostrate my inner being before God. Thank you for sending your son.
