Belief And The Rising Tides Of Unbelief
BELIEF AND THE RISING TIDE OF UNBELIEF
Most Americans believe in the existence of God and that the Bible contains His word. Belief is the result of examining the evidence God has given in the Bible and coming to the conviction that it is true.
(Ro 10:17; Acts 15:7; Jas 1:21)
But the increasing numbers of unbelievers is disturbing. Some Polls suggest unbelievers have surpassed believers. In part, unbelief is the result of a constant barrage of attacks directed at the Bible and the moral beliefs it contains. This has resulted in ridicule of Christians and their beliefs causing many to distance themselves from the faith.
The greater part of the blame for losing our children and neighbors to a perverse generation may be a failure within believers. We may lack familiarity with the word of God and therefore teach neither our children, neighbors or ourselves.
(Ezra 7:10; Matt 4:4; 2Tim 2:15; Eph 6:4; Judges 2:10)
It may be that some know God’s word without acting on it. Anything short of living what we teach will turn our children and neighbors away from the faith. This is the very definition of hypocrisy. Christian must be more than a name we wear. It must be a way of living.
(Jas 1:23-25; Ro 2:21-24; Titus 2:5; Jas 3:17; 1Pet 2:12, 20; 1Pet 4:12-16)
Are we making a stand against the teachings and immoralities of this perverse generation? Are we teaching God’s word in our speech and by our lives? (Jude 3; 1Pet 3:15)
Could we be responsible for the rising tide of unbelief in Quincy and the world around us?
As members of the Lord’s church, we must not be ashamed of our belief in God and His word. We must zealously encourage people to believe by preaching the Gospel message. (Ro 1:16)
